The daffodils are here. During the last week sometime, the grass turned green. And the days are getting warm enough that most afternoons we venture outdoors without jackets for some play time.
The birds are back and Mr. and Mrs. Squirrel have been getting quite friendly with one another on our deck. Everyone seems to be nesting. Including us...
We take nesting to a whole new level at our house. We moved when I was 7 months pregnant with the toddler. Not THAT unusual. Except that we then proceeded to tear out 400 square feet of carpet, paint two bedrooms (including one that was knotty pine paneling), and install bamboo floors in the entire second floor. Then we had to move upstairs.
This time around? At 8 months we decided it was time to finally remodel that bathroom upstairs we've never used. I honestly thought that I had posted pictures of the bathroom when we moved into the house, but after much looking, I can't find them anywhere. Some of you have seen it; you'll know. The *bad* photo below is much improved. We tore out plastic (yep, PLASTIC) tile that was adhered to DRYWALL without any sort of grout or caulk from around the tub/shower and four feet up ALL the walls. It was mostly gray, but not even all the same color or a variation that made sense. Then there was the vintage wall paper of toilets; I'll say that it was charming, but not at all out style. Turns out that it was covering the pink you see in the photo. We took the shower down to the studs up to the ceiling, replaced the insulation on the two exterior walls, replaced all the water lines and valves for the tub and shower, tacked up plastic sheeting, and installed tile backer board. The vanity and sink are gone, the toilet is temporarily in the hallway, and the medicine cabinet will not be returning. We replaced the "tile" on the walls with bead-board.

We still have a long ways to go, but we're fired up about having an adult bathroom at our house. And I'm super excited about the tile we've chosen and the pedestal sink we'll be installing.
In the mean time, I've got a nursery to get ready for another baby. That means there's tiny little clothes to wash, a mattress to buy, sheets to launder, diapers and covers to organize... You know; the normal second baby nesting stuff.
I understand why you would want to remove the tile around the shower, but I don't understand how it was held in place without grout or cauling...
Will this new bath be ready before or after the new baby?
