I cheated a bit on the lay on the couch rest the other night and got on the move a bit. I'd had one of those take it easy days, so I decided that sitting at the sewing machine was still sitting. I further justified it by reminding myself that all the parts were cut, so all I had to do was the actual sewing. After only a half hour, I was able to head back up to the couch where I propped my feet up while I turned, added the interfacing, and pinned the fabric box you see up there. I top stitched it in only a few minutes the next day. It still needs to have the hole in the liner hand-sewn closed and the interfacing pressed into place, but other than that it's ready to sit on the toddler's dresser and hold diapers. I used this tutorial here that I've used before. Don't be intimidated by it; it's much easier than it sounds. I think I whipped this one up in a total of less than 2 hours.
The toddler is on the move as well. He's having one of those tantrum filled weeks where we can tell something is up, we just don't know what yet. He's sleeping less than usual and acting like coming to the table for a meal is the worst possible thing in the world. It's resulted in a lot of his meals being eaten at the table on my lap. We'll have to shake that up sooner or later, but for the time being I can appreciate the fact that he wants to be close to us. He won't want to sit in my lap to eat (or even give me a hug for that matter!) when he's 15.
I also had one of those nights that you hate as a soon to be second-time mama. The baby will be here soon enough to interrupt my sleep, I don't need to do it on my own now! I actually woke myself up snoring at 1:30. Then I was up to pee at 3:00. I was thrilled when I went right back to sleep, but less than thrilled when I woke up near 4:30 to something rattling in the house. After a minute of consideration, I determined that it was not the toddler awake and beating on the wall, nor the dog trying to escape the basement. It was definitely the roasting pans on top of the pot rack in the kitchen. Still groggy, it took me another minute to process that only thing that could cause that vibration, and then I accidentally declared it out loud. "We're having an earthquake." Hubby woke instantly and said "huh?". I repeated that statement and apologized for waking him. He went right back to sleep, but for some reason I couldn't. Turns out that the quake woke the birds too, they were as loud at 4:45 am as they normally are at 7. I never really did get back to sleep before the toddler woke extra early before 6:30.
I'm sure you saw the earthquake on the news if you watched this morning. It was 350 miles east of us in West Plains, IL, and a 5.4. I'm sure my buds in the St. Louis area had a much larger, ruder, middle of the night awakening than we did! It's been 10 years or so since we've had that kind of shaking here in the KC area, and last time I slept through it. I know in my head that we live near the largest fault in North America, but, being so large, it rarely moves.
All the moving and shaking going on around here doesn't seem to be effecting the babe much, however. Contractions have been at a minimum. I still think we'll have this kiddo sometime next week. Frankly, I hope that I am right; walking around with a baby on board this low for so long isn't much fun. I'm not miserable; I'm just not very comfortable. And I'm moving much slower than usual these days.
I'm sorely ticked. I was awake at 4:30 this morning and felt nary a wiggle. Phoo.
Box looks good; rest more! I got to where I tried to think of the late-term sleep interruptions as preparation for how-it-is-gonna-be...made them a little (mind you, *only* a little!) easier to stomach.....
