Laboring in vain

According to our doctor, as of yesterday, there hadn't been much more progress made. That means the few contractions I did have since our last appointment haven't gotten us far. This is really good news; I'm still suppose to take it easy though. I figure since washing a few dishes, folding clothes, and occasionally preparing something simple for dinner didn't cause a problem last week, it's probably ok if I do a little of those things this week too. But I did buy a ton of easy to prepare, yet healthy, foods at the store yesterday and today.

I made a trip to JoAnn's a few weeks ago on a Sunday while the toddler napped to pick out fabrics for his new room. I must have walked the store 20 times trying to find just the right fabric for his crib skirt. I was even late getting home and had hubby a little worried about me. What you see up top is what I found on my last trip through the quilting cotton; I had decided that I was going to look one last time and then give up. I fell in love with it; it picked up all the right colors and was decidedly "little boy". One of the problems I had while shopping was the fact that most of the fabrics, even the blue ones, are, well, girly. They're covered in flowers, paisleys, butterflies, etc. I bought extra to use for a few other things in his room, and just because I loved it.

The crib skirt was much easier than the curtains. I designed a simple box pleat in the middle of each side that opens to the brown twill I used on the curtains. I hadn't seen the crib we were borrowing from our friends in a long while when I started the project, and I didn't pay much attention to it when we brought it home and hubby set it up. I could have saved myself a lot of time if I had; the crib has side panels that go almost to the floor! I put nice box pleats in on all four sides and only one side of the dang thing shows! I'm really hoping that since his Mama made it, maybe some other little boy in our family will get to use it some day with a crib that will show off all the details.

Turns out that I've been doing a lot of laboring in vain these days. ;) Hope your labors are all fruitful.

Ooo! That fabric rocks! What a great find-- and a cool crib skirt.

Does one ever 'get ready' to have another child? It will all get done. I'm wishing you the best of luck in every way. You already stay so busy and you do accomplish a lot. Toddler #1 is really growing and cute, cute!
