I caught the bug

The applied I-cord bug, that is. That's a photo of the finished knit baby blanket I gave my sister-in-law in the basket at her shower. It's really just a basic log cabin with an applied I-cord border. The I-cord went pretty quick and was exactly what this blanket needed to pull it all together.

It's knit with Puff fleece yarn on size 13 needles. I have to say that while the yarn is super soft and squishy, it's not my favorite yarn to knit with. The fleece had a tendency to be a bit "sticky" on the needles. This wasn't a huge issue until the blanket got relatively large, then sliding all those stitches while I worked became a bit cumbersome. I do have some yarn left over, and I will be using it for a few little things.

I'm pretty happy with how this blanket turned out, but I'm glad to have it finished. I'm ready to cast on for a blanket for my own upcoming bundle of crying love. I even got out my new swift and ball winder this afternoon to wind some skeins of organic cotton. I've heard that yarn winding can be very therapeutic. I needed therapy. Badly. Yarn winding was NOT going to be my therapy today. My brand new swift was defective and would not clamp to my table. I ended up only getting through most of two skeins before the toddler woke from his nap, and the second skein was tied in knots (and untied) before the process was finished after dinner! If you see my buddy Linda, please tell her that I feel her pain; owning a ball winder and no swift is not ideal.

I figure that my one ball of each color will at least get me started on a Hoover blanket. I've been waiting to knit this for a long time; I plan to cast on for it tonight. There will not be an applied I-cord border on this one. I promise.

The applied I-cord really finished the blanket nicely, and it looks great! I love that feel and color of that blanket. I am sure it will fast become a favorite!
