Cabin Fever

January 04, 2008

The toddler was sick this week, and it was really cold here. We were home bound for a while, and I had vivid memories of all the time I spent walking laps around the house during last winter trying to sooth the screaming baby.

Turns out the poor little guy has two ear infections! And when he gets clingy, its just like when he was little. He wants to be held and needs you to keep moving. His tired pregnant mommy decided that she had to sit down on several occasions. Truthfully, I don't mind holding him. Not one bit. It's the carrying 21 or 22 pounds of toddler around for extended periods that got to me. When I would finally decide that I HAD to sit, he would start to complain. If I toughed it out and sat through the complaining, eventually he'd crawl out of my lap and walk around behind me. Then he would start pushing on my back, complaining the whole time. Eventually I'd get up, and he would reach up his arms for me to pick him up as if to say, "No, mommy, you have to stand up and walk while you hold me!"

By mid-week we both had cabin fever. I even left for his Wednesday morning doctors appointment way early so we could go for a drive just to be out of the house.

Good news is he's feeling, and sleeping, much better. Bad news? Yep, I didn't accomplish any of my goals for the week. My studio is still a mess and there are still some Christmas decorations up at our house. I was proud of myself for getting the ornaments packed away, the nativities taken down, and the Christmas books stored until next season today until I looked up tonight and saw greenery and red berries still on my sconces in the dining room. Oops. I guess I'm not finished un-decoration just yet.

Other cabin news? Turns out that I still have cabin fever; it's just a different kind. The knitting kind. I started another log cabin blanket this week. And since I didn't have the energy to get up and do stuff, I got a lot done on it. Remember this yarn? Yep, I'm working on size 13 needles to knit that stuff onto a fluffy log cabin blanky for my little nephew whose arrival will probably be in February. Sorry, no pictures; I wouldn't want to spoil the surprise. I'm liking, but not loving, working with the fleece ribbon yarn. It has plenty of stretch, but it's a little sticky. I might like it better on metal needles, but I don't have any the right size and hubby hates the noise they make.

The last bit of good news is that the Christmas knitting is officially all finished. I forgot to take pictures before I gave the gifts, so I'll have to post them later, but I completed fetching for my sister-in-law (not the one having the baby...), dashing for hubby, and a felted bag from my hand-spun for my buddy Linda.

Linda and I agreed to a knitted gift exchange. And we'll have to so it again. She knit Branching Out for me; you can see her awesome photo of it here. I love this scarf; it's the perfect weight for wearing around the house, yet still warm enough to handle the cold outside. And it is SO soft.

I've also joined three Valentine Swaps. I've signed up for a Valentine swap over at Sarah's blog, the Sweet Goodness Heart Swap, and the Vintage Heart Swap. I really think that that's more than enough to keep me busy in addition to all the baby projects, moving the toddler to a room downstairs, and getting ready for another show at The Imago in June. Oh, and having another baby.
