The goose is getting phat

Christmas is coming. And I'm giving one of you, Diana, a hint. This is on it's way to you as of a couple of weeks ago. To help everyone else understand, Diana is in Canada, and she is my Sweet Goodness Holiday Swap sister. I'm patiently waiting to see what she's sent me as well. This is a photo of the Garland I made for her. I'll post more pictures and details later, after she's gotten her package.

The weather outside is predicted to turn frightful again this evening with an ice warning for tonight and tomorrow. We COULD get upwards of an inch of ice. Or we may get just plain old COLD rain. On the off chance that we do get the ice, I headed to the store this morning to get us a few things that we'll need if we all wind up homebound for a couple of days. An inch of ice would probably mean no power at our house for quite some time. We live in a 50+ year old place with above ground power lines and large mature trees. You do the math.

We had some glazing on the roads Saturday morning from freezing drizzle as I headed out the door to make the drive to Lawrence. I took another spinning class at the Yarn Barn. I was a half hour late for class due to sitting in the car on the highway while they cleared accidents; all three of which involved overturned vehicles. The drive was a little nerve racking, but totally worth it.

The class offered a chance to try spinning with several different types of fibers (but no goose! ;) ) and basic instruction in the long draw method. They teach short draw spinning in the level one class. My current spinning technique passed muster, but the pointers were very helpful. I'm terrible with long draw, but loved trying all the new fibers. Ok, while I liked some of them, I didn't spin well with many of them at all. I picked up a little merino roving and some cotton to get me more practice. I've determined that if I can master cotton, I just might be able to spin anything. Plus, I can grow my own cotton here in Kansas. Now, that would be fun! I promise yarn pictures soon!

And at this point I could really use less ice and more snow.
