Starry, Starry Night

There's a reason that Van Gogh's painting The Starry Night is so well known. It is in line right behind the Mona Lise as the most reproduced painting. I think it's because it's mesmerizing. Have you ever really looked at it? Even just a large reproduction? When I taught Kindergarten art classes a couple of years ago, Van Gogh's painting was part of the curriculum. I loved watching those little fingers grip the large brushes while my students painted stars and swirls. Later, we would add collage torn paper buildings to their paintings.

I love stars. I think it really started because I'm from the Lone Star State, but over time the star has grown into a symbol of hope for me. It was a star that lead the wise men to a stable 2000 years ago.

I bought this book simply because of the cover before we'd even had the toddler. And I knew that I would knit this for my little one whether we had a boy or a girl. Getting pregnant was a bit of a challenge for us the first time around; so the toddler truly gave us hope from the very beginning.

Now I've finished both the front and the back. It's the one Christmas project I can share. At not quite 17 months, he can't read yet; so I don't have to worry about spoiling the surprise. I'm planning on him wearing it on Christmas Eve this year.

I'm off to work on other things I can't mention until they've been received, and eventually get some sleep.
