Finally Fall

It's official. The maple in the backyard turned late last week and still looks pretty today. We have the toddler's swing in this tree, so this is the canopy we had while swinging. It was so warm to look up at all the yellow and orange!

It's really windy today, so that canopy is turning into a yellow, orange, and red carpet. I'm really enjoying getting to watch the seasons change out a window and while walking through them this year. It's the second fall that I've been at home, but I don't remember enjoying it so much last year. I think we happened to be playing outside at the exact moment when there were precisely as many leaves under the tree as on the tree. It made for a really magical view; beautiful canopy overhead and warm fall carpet below. And it was all contrasted with a bright blue sky and deep green grass. I'd have snapped a picture for you, but there was no way to capture it!

And the toddler is enjoying the leaves too! Today he spent time at the park intentionally walking through piles of leaves. I think he likes the crunch; I know I do. Isn't that the best part of fall? Well, that and all the sticks to play with!

Linda
and I made our annual trip to The Studio's fall sale yesterday and I bought yarn. I picked up a couple of skeins of Maggi's Linen for my secret pal (no pictures, it's a secret...) and 12 skeins of Puffin Fleece to make a baby blanket for my sister-in-law.

I'm so excited about the blanket that I've had to tell myself that I'll finish the sweater for the toddler before I start on the blanket. The blanket doesn't need to be finished until February, so there's really no hurry. And the toddler might outgrow the sweater if I don't finish it soon!

I, *gulp*, started on the intarsia part of the sweater last night. It's not nearly as difficult as I thought it would be, but its also not a lot of fun keeping all those little balls of yarn straight. I managed just four rows last night!

And I agreed to a knitted item exchange for Christmas with my yarn shopping buddy Linda. I'm excited about the exchange; we knit very different items and it will be nice to make something for someone that I know they would not make. I'm also excited to get something I wouldn't knit. I have a couple of ideas, but could also use suggestions. It will need to be a quick knit, but I really want it to be a nice gift. Linda's been a really great friend and listened to a lot of whining and complaining over the last 15 months or so.
