It took me long enough...

June 25, 2007

I decided a while back to join a knit-a-long (KAL). For those of you who don't knit: the idea is that a group of people knit something "together". It usually involves a certain object or a theme. The Inspired by Nature KAL caught my eye because it would have me using pictures from nature to guide my choices. I'm very familiar with working like this from some of the quilts I have made. So this is right up my ally.

Here are the pictures I've chosen to work with. I took these on a walk with the baby through the park near our home on Friday.

I bought some yarn shortly after I found out I was pregnant to knit the baby a blanket, but I never figured out what I wanted to do with it. It helped that I read the Mason-Dixon book last week; I've decided to knit a log cabin blanket for the little guy. Since it took me so long to get to it (He's almost 1!), I figure that it should be a "boy" blanket, not a baby one, So, I dug the yarn out of my stash, added two more skeins in another color, and got to work. It seems fitting that the blanket I knit for him be inspired by a park that we've frequented together.

I promise pics of the yarn and blanket progress soon. I'm using Reynold's Cabana; I had to hunt to find two more skeins in Lawrence. My wonderful sister-in-law picked them up for me over the weekend, but I don't have them yet...
