Random collected stuff... SFBE contest, SP10, and SSS revealed - sort of

May 25, 2007

So, I've got a ton of random things I need to share with all of you in blog-land. You know, on the inter-webs.

First, the final question in the Spring Felted Bag Contest has arrived. I'm to link to three other people's blogs who I have something in common with - besides knitting - and tell you what we have in common. Here goes:
1. I found this on Kena's blog, "Channon.....the darker the chocolate the better....you go girl!!" And I agree emphatically! I know this doesn't get me credit for two people, but I wonder how many of us like the supre dark stuff.
2. June R. and I both like to garden.
3. Sheilah B. and I both spin. She's a much better spinner than I am, but I do make yarn...

I also got an awesome package from my pal for SP10. I think she can read my mind. See:

How in the world she knew that I'd seen corn yarn on someone else's blog and really wanted to try it, I don't know. But there's a skein of amazing corn in a wonderful mocha color, a skein of sugar 'n cream, and not one, but two skeins of soysilk in an awesome teal and green two ply. Soysilk is another fiber I've been wanting to try for a while! She also sent some wonderful orange lavender scented soap from Sharon's Soaps that made the whole box smell good, a neat journal, a small handknit wash cloth that's the perfect size for the baby, and a soap saver. The soap saver is a handknit bag for the soap to live in; she wrote that you can use it as a scrubber or just put the soap in it when you're done with it. I love all of it, and I am convinced that I have the best secret pal ever!

As for the SSS (super secret surprise). It turned out quite well, but I'm not completely happy with the blocking. Hubby loved it. I'm going to continue to work on blocking it into a shape that looks more like what I want. I know that you still don't know what it is. I'll tell you in a bit, but I'm hesitant to post good photos of it. I read the submission guidelines for knitty last night and I'm afraid that I'll jeopardize my chances of getting published if I post too much information. So here it is:

I know it doesn't look like much, but I didn't want to unfold it enough to take a photo while it was still wet. And I bet you can't tell what it is, huh? It's a brown lunch bag. It's to scale and even has the little divet on the top, centered on one side. I promise that I'll post a link to knitty (if I'm lucky enough to get it accepted) or I'll post more information and much better photos if I get declined.

There's one thing I'm concerned about. Knitty already has a brown bag. It's very different from my design, but I'm afraid that they are too close for them to consider mine... I guess we'll see. Now I just have to name it. Any ideas?

Oh Very cute bag!! I'd just been thinking the other day that making a bag like that would be fun - though I'm not sure I'd have gotten it just right the way you did! It's super cute though, and does make me want to actually work on a felted lunch bag of some sort!! GOOD LUCK!
