If shopping were a sport...

July 21, 2005

I made my annual trip to Larry (Lawrence) today for their sidewalk sales. The downtown Lawrence sidewalk sales are an institution in this area. They draw thousands of people for a one day shopping exravaganza. I've been going to the sale yearly for five or six years, and I always have a blast and get amazing deals on stuff you can't find anywhere else. Today was no different.

I got started at the Yarn Barn at about 8:00 this morning. I spent about an hour looking at spinning wheels and finding just the right yarn to knit myself some felted pot holders. By 11:00 am I'd made it about halfway through the sale, and I took a break to have lunch with a friend at Wheatfields Bakery. We made it through the entire sidewalk sale together before ending our day right where I had started at the Yarn Barn, where I ordered a spinning wheel and bought myself a ton of fiber to spin. At 3:15 I dropped my friend off at her car and headed home.

I managed to buy everything I needed and a few things that weren't on my list. The find of the day was three amazing wooden trays from a five star hotel in Hong Kong that had closed. I only paid two bucks for each tray! I was amazed that I still had enough energy to workout when I got home. It's too bad that I can't earn a living shopping, or that shopping isn't a competitive sport; I'm really good at it.

School will be starting again soon, so I guess I'll go back to earning money instead of spending it.
