I had the absolute pleasure of receiving company at my father’s house this morning. My good friend Joie stopped by with her daughter to spend some time with the baby and me. I am always amazed at how easy it is for us to pick up where we left off; it is usually months or even years between our visits.
We’ve known each other since high school; both changed, learned, grown, in the last more than 15 years. There’s a lot of water under our proverbial bridge, yet we always find our common ground right away. We’ve both had kids: she’s got a 6 year old girl; I’ve got two boys under the age of three. There’s nothing like a friend who is comfortable, worn in.
I am so very thankful for Joie’s friendship. I was reminded of why when she showed up at my dad’s house this morning. After a big hug for me, she immediately scooped up the baby and showered him with affection. The look on his 11 month old face as he was hugged so tightly by someone he’d never met was priceless. She even offered to change a poopy diaper at one point during our visit. All I can say is that’s my Joie.

Give her a big hug from me too!
I don’t cry much these days, but this did it. I love you so much! I too marvel at how so much time always seems to boil down to no time at all, and I look forward to making the same observations another ten, twenty, fifty (if we can still remember things then) years from now.
I wondered why you were taking a picture of my foot—you weirdo!
